- Arriving in the UAE
If you’re relocating to the UAE, here are some things you will need to organise upon arrival. These are listed in no particular order but we hope they’re useful in helping you and your family to settle in and start enjoying your new life here in the desert.
Arrange for the following licenses, tests and pieces of essential documentation for yourself and relevant family members. Your company may have a PRO attached to the HR department who will be able to help you with much of this:
Medical test
ID cards
Residency visa
Labour card
Medical insurance
Emirates ID card
You will need multiple passport photos for many of the above so ensure you get lots taken either before you arrive or soon after arrival.
Obtain a UAE driving license
Set up a UAE bank account
If you don’t already have school places for your children, start researching schools and applying for places.
You may move into temporary accommodation so start looking for a permanent place to live as soon as possible. We have over 40,000 properties listed on our site so it’s a great place to start your search.
Once you’ve moved into your permanent home arrange for water, electricity and district cooling if relevant.
Obtain a UAE sim and/or mobile phone
Apply for TV, Internet & landline
Find a doctor and dentist
Organise any help you require such as a nanny, driver or gardener. Expat forums are a great place to start and get advice and recommendations
Lease or buy a car and if you’re living in Dubai, obtain your Salik tag (pre-paid toll card)
Register your pet with a vet
