Saudi technology to diagnose bird flu

Saudi researcher Najla Bent Saoud has presented a new genetic technology for Saudi preventive medicine: a new method for treating and preventing bird flu. The researcher has succeeded in adding a new value to the diagnosis of the "H1N1" bird virus, and created a new method to reveal Saudi strains of bird flu. The researcher's creation is the subject of her Ph.D. thesis at King Abdel Aziz University in Jeddah and represents the first method in the Kingdom to diagnose the disease using a technique different from European techniques, whereby she depended for her research on the application of a new virus suffered by birds in the Kingdom. The researcher notes that the importance of her thesis lies in the diagnostic molecular means that differentiate between diagnosing the virus and discovering new 'mutant' strains. This decreases the danger of false negatives resulting from the mutation of the current strain to another strain, and not due to non-presence of the virus.
