The Cirrata Octopus Lamp
Swedish designer Markus Johansson was inspired by the form of sea creatures in his latest design: the "Cirrata" octopus lamp. Markus incorporated a heat-formable substance name corian and molded it to form an octopus-shape around a wooden base. Johansson explored various industrial materials and techniques, and after a series of unexpected surprises he was inspired to design this extraordinary shape of the "Cirrata" lamp. The designer described his project, saying: "'Unexpected experiences and surprises wait deep down on the ocean floor: a body with many arms which sweeps along and lights up the depth. Arrogant and presumptuous, there is no doubt about who is the ruler down here. A lonely but nevertheless unafraid character with forms born out of the resemblance to other inhabitants of the deep depths." He added: "Sometimes still, sometimes alive, all depending on occasion and company. The character is 'cirrata', a glowing lamp in the darkness of the ocean."
