Zaha Hadid designs the Z-Chair
Iraqi designer Zaha Hadid has created a new design called the "Z-Chair" made of polished steel. The architect was able to incorporate the essence of contemporary design for the benefit of the Italian furniture company Sawaya & Moroni. A simple three-dimensional gesture zigzags through space as part of the continual discourse between form and function, elegance and utility, differentiation and continuity. The chair is 920 mm in length, 880 mm in height and 610 in depth. Unfortunately, only 24 pieces have been manufactured, all from polished stainless steel. The chair is transformed from being just a piece of furniture to a linear loop, which is articulated along its path in a language that alternates between thin wire streams and large surfaces to bring ergonomics and inherent stability to the overall shape.
