Summed up: Dubai Tram, Metro & Trolley fines

How much would you actually get fined if you’d violate some of the traffic rules set up for Dubai Metro, Tram or the Trolley at Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard? We’ve all heard various versions of the story from friends and grumpy taxi drivers, some say the fine could be as high as AED 50,000 while some others laugh at the exaggeration. So, we summed up all you need to know about these violations in a few simple points.

Dubai Tram

The tram passes through at least 30 intersections, crossings, and junctions, starting from Dubai Police Academy in Al Sufouh road all the way to the Dubai Marina and JBR.

In short, the Dubai Tram violation fines are as follows:

  • AED 1,000: Pedestrians crossing from an undesignated area.
  • AED 5000: Jumping red light at an intersection.
  • AED 5,000 – AED 15,000: Jumping a red light at an intersection and causing an accident. This might also lead to a possible suspension of driving license for 30 days to 6 months.
  • AED 10,000 – AED 30,000: Jumping a red light at an intersection and causing an accident leading to death. This will also lead to suspension of driving license for up to one year.

Dubai Trolley

Another addition to Dubai’s short-route transportation is the Dubai Trolley, which connects residents to Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Dubai Fountain, passing by Souk Al Bahar and Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, all spanning across a distance of 1km.

Since the Trolley doesn’t intersect with any junctions, motorists don’t have to worry about violating the rules and getting fines. However, pedestrians need to keep an eye on the possibility of facing a fine of AED 1,000 in case they don’t cross from the designated areas.

Keep off tramway. Violators will be fined AED 1,000, as the warning sign reads.
