It seems that it’s time to forget about being the tallest building, or the most twisty; news has reached us of a ground-breaking (literally) new building design in New Mexico which instead of soaring towards the stars, plunges towards the earth’s core.<\/p>

It’s intended that the 65 storey pyramid-shaped ‘earth-scraper’ will burrow some 300 metres into the ground and has been proposed by architects, BNKR Arquitectura<\/a> as a creative response to the unique building challenges of the densely populated Mexico City.<\/p>

If you’re wondering that it might be, well, just a bit dark going about your daily business 300 metres below ground, worry not – a glass “roof” in the city’s main square would cover the building and allow natural light to filter down through all levels of the structure.<\/p>

There’s no word as yet as to whether the building design will ever get off (or into) the ground but knowing the UAE’s penchant for innovative and ‘creative’ architecture, what’s the betting that we see a similar proposal here in three, two, one…<\/p>
