The Capital has a building that pips the Leaning Tower of Pisa
Capital Gate
Italy’s no longer the only country with a record-setting leaning tower, as Abu Dhabi has built the tallest leaning building! Deliberately engineered to slant, The Capital Gate building in Abu Dhabi has been certified by Guinness World Records as the “World’s Furthest Leaning Man-made Tower.” Nearly five times farther than the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the 35-story building has an inclination of 18 degrees and is 160 meters high. The building serves as an exhibition centre, with a 5-star hotel and approximately 20,000 square metres of premium office space. Visitors can also enjoy several facilities, including a swimming pool, tea lounge, fine dining experiences and a cafe.
Al Bahr Towers
Al Bahr Towers, the iconic twin 29-storey buildings in Abu Dhabi, snagged the award for the 2nd World’s Best Towers. The offices, which house government and corporate offices, have become a sight to see for visitors to the Capital. Often nicknamed “the pineapple buildings”, they have an unusual covering of 2,000 umbrella-like elements that open and close based on the direction of the sun. The towers’ solar shading system features a computer-controlled facade made up of thousands of translucent units. See some pictures below!
Etihad Towers
Etihad Towers is a complex of stunning buildings located opposite the Emirates Palace hotel. And although they look similar from the outside, the five towers are by no means identical. Three are residential apartments, one is an office tower and the other is a hotel. There is even a double level observation deck on top of the tallest tower, where visitors can enjoy great views of Saadiyat Island and the Emirates Palace.
Aldar Headquarters
The Aldar Headquarters is more of a circular skyscraper and the first building of its kind in the Middle East. Nicknamed “the coin” because of its shiny, spherical shape, it offers spectacular views of the city, canal and sea.
The Landmark
Located at the Corniche, Abu Dhabi’s grand waterfront, the Landmark is the second highest mixed-use tower in the emirate after Burj Mohammed Bin Rashid and stands at 324 metres, featuring 72 floors and 5 basement levels. The tower is indeed a “Landmark” of Abu Dhabi’s skyline. Design-wise, you could call it post-modern and it took 6 years to be built. It also features restaurants, a fitness centre, an outdoor pool and a roof-top garden.
Sky Tower
It probably got its name from the panoramic views of the Gulf and Abu Dhabi island it has to offer. Along with Sun Tower, they are the two tallest buildings in the Shams Gate District.
