Overview & History
Falaj Al Mualla Fort was constructed in 1825 by Sheikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Mualla. With its unique square design, it features two round towers and two rectangular towers that blend functionality with traditional Emirati design.
The fort served a dual purpose, as both a defensive fort and a summer retreat for the ruling family. It had three outer watchtowers built to increase its security. They offered wide surveillance and added protection for nearby settlements and farmlands.
The fort began undergoing restoration in 2009, with work completed by 2015. Before that, parts of the towers had been restored in 2007, and the traditional bath house was revived in 2014. Today, the fort is a proud symbol of the rich culture and heritage of the UAE, giving people a glimpse of the lifestyle and toughness of previous generations.
