What is the DP World Tour Championship?

The DP World Tour Championship is the season finale of the DP World Tour, and the second and final event of the DP World Tour Play-Offs, which bring the season to a close.
Only the best players of the year get in. The top 70 available players on the Race to Dubai Rankings play the first Play-Off event, the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship at Yas Links (5 to 8 November). The top 50 available players then move on to Dubai for the DP World Tour Championship, where the Race to Dubai champion is decided.
The tournament is played over 72 holes of stroke play, with no cut, so every player in the field plays all four rounds. If there’s a tie for first place, it goes to a hole-by-hole play-off. The winner earns 2,000 Race to Dubai points.
The event first ran in 2009 as the Dubai World Championship presented by DP World and took its current name in 2012. Every edition has been played at Jumeirah Golf Estates.

How to get to the DP World Tour Championship Dubai

The organisers recommend public transport, and parking at the venue is limited.
By metro and free shuttle
The closest station is Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station. Free shuttle buses run between the station and the venue from Thursday to Sunday, roughly every 30 minutes depending on traffic. The last shuttle back to the metro leaves at 7 pm on Thursday and Sunday, and at 8 pm on Friday and Saturday.
By taxi
There is a taxi drop-off and pick-up area at the venue. Once you’re inside Jumeirah Golf Estates, ask your driver to follow the event signs.
By car
Parking in the Public Car Park costs AED 50 per vehicle if you book in advance, or AED 80 if you pay on arrival.
- From Dubai: Take Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road or Al Khail Road and follow the signs for Al Fay Road. Drive past Production City on your right, keep right, take the exit to the roundabout and turn right at the first exit. Signs for the tournament and Jumeirah Golf Estates start from there.
- From Abu Dhabi: Follow the E311 Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road towards Dubai and Sharjah, then follow the event signs.
Overnight parking is not allowed. Cars left in the Public Car Park or Hospitality Car Park 2 after closing time will be fined and towed. The car parks close 30 minutes after the venue: 7:30 pm on Thursday and Sunday, and 8:30 pm on Friday and Saturday.
Tips for spectators
- It’s cashless: Only contactless payments are accepted, and there’s no ATM on site.
- Leave the camera at home: Cameras aren’t allowed from Thursday to Sunday. Phones are fine, as long as they’re on silent.
- Food and drink: You can bring a small packed lunch and a soft drink in a small backpack. Alcohol, glass bottles and picnic hampers aren’t allowed.
- Bring a chair and a water bottle: There are no grandstands, but folding chairs are allowed, and there are water refill stations around the course.
- Charge your phone: There are no charging points, so bring a power bank. Limited free Wi-Fi is available in the Championship Village and some other areas.
- Dress for the course: Casual golf wear and comfortable shoes work best, as the ground can be uneven. Metal spikes aren’t allowed. Bring sunscreen.
- Bags are allowed: Bags and rucksacks are searched on entry, and there’s no left-luggage facility.
- Families: Pushchairs are allowed, and there are baby-changing facilities in the Championship Village. Vulnerable person wristbands are available at the Welcome tent.
- Other facilities: First aid, toilets, separate prayer rooms for men and women, an information tent and wheelchair viewing areas.
