About Emirati Women’s Day

In honor of the founding of the General Women’s Union, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima announced in 2014 the designation of August 28th each year to celebrate Emirati women. 

This celebration recognizes their societal, familial contributions and achievements on the international stage. Not just that, it’s also a great opportunity to thank them for their endless contributions to the community and their families. 

Besides, during this day, different entities, services, and leisure centers offer Emirati women various celebrations in many ways to say thank you.

It’s a yearly celebration on the 28th of August. In its 18th edition, 2023, the Emirati Women’s Day comes on Sunday, August 28.

Emirati Women’s Day 2023 Theme

The theme of the Emirati Women’s Day in 2023 is “We Collaborate for Tomorrow”. 

It was announced by Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, which is the Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), and the “Mother of the Nation. 

As a better tomorrow starts with today, the theme of Emirati Women’s Day sheds light on the importance of seeking innovative solutions to tackle new challenges regarding climate change, climate change, and sustainability.

This is through the collaboration of the different sectors of the country, including civil society, federal and local authorities, and the private sector.

  1. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak

Her Highness is considered one of the most important and prominent women in the history of the UAE. This owes to the prestigious leadership roles and the pioneering initiatives she embarked on. 

Moreover, these endeavors have not only brought positive changes in the advancement of Emirati women but have also paved the way for their growth and empowerment.

  1. Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi

She represented the role of the first Emirati woman to secure a seat in the Federal National Council through legitimate elections.

Dr. Amal’s pioneering spirit didn’t stop there; she engraved her name in history once again by becoming the first woman to take the helm of the National Council’s 6th session in 2016, a true testament to her inspirational journey.

  1. Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimi

A true visionary, she ignited the engine and was an active member in granting the International Bureau of Expositions the opportunity to organize Expo 2020 in Dubai. 

But that’s not all – her audacious decision marked a milestone in hosting this event in the Middle East for the first time. It was an exceptional one on all levels, from organization and events held to setting and vibes.

The UAE’s efforts in supporting Emirati women are endless; the country facilitates all the services, regulations, and amenities that make their lives much easier, empower them, and support them to embark on new challenges.

  1. Woman Health Services

In light of the sexual and reproductive health services provided by the country, it offers Emirati women some services that support their physical and mental wellness through: 

  • Providing awareness programmes about the different age stages of the woman and how to deal with each period. 
  • Giving attention to the women’s health needs in the country’s remote areas
  • Organizing workshops and seminars that tackle the importance of women’s mental health.

Having your own home as an Emirati woman is surely an important thing, either as an investment for financial stability or an independent home. 

In accordance with this, the UAE is bringing the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme, which is one of the leading real estate programmes in the country. 

Through it, there is a part for women through which they are offered a financial reward; it could be used for maintenance purposes or to have a new residence for their family.

Moreover, there are some eligibility conditions to be able to enjoy the offerings of this programme: 

  • A widow who has the custody of her children 
  • To be a custodial divorced woman, in case their father can’t afford a suitable house
  • To be married to a non-UAE citizen who can’t get his family a suitable house for residency.
  • With no parents and reached 30 years old without marriage and has no breadwinner to subsist legally. 
  1. Public Transportation for Women

In order to provide a secure and positive society for women in UAE, the country worked on providing public transportation options only for women.

This is in addition to allocating specific places for women in the public means of transport so they feel more comfortable and enjoy privacy.
