Location and how to get there

Zayed International Airport (formerly Abu Dhabi International Airport) sits along the E10 highway, approximately 30 kilometres east of Abu Dhabi city centre. It is also accessible via the E11 (Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road) and E12, making it straightforward to reach by car from both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Its location along the main highway puts it within easy reach of popular destinations such as Yas Island, which is roughly 16 minutes away by car.
Terminals at Zayed International Airport

Terminal A
Terminal A is the main terminal at Zayed International Airport and handles the vast majority of flights. It is home to around 163 shops, numerous dining outlets, VIP lounges, a kids’ play area, a health spa, and an on-site hotel. All airlines operating through the airport use Terminal A for check-in, including those with flights to the United States.
Terminal 3
Terminal 3 is dedicated to US-bound flights. Passengers on these routes check in at Terminal A before proceeding through US immigration and customs pre-clearance at Terminal 3, a significant convenience that allows travellers to land in the United States as domestic arrivals.
Both terminals are equipped with prayer rooms, baby-changing facilities, family services, currency exchange, free Wi-Fi, accessible toilets, shower facilities, and medical services.
Zayed International Airport Arrivals

Baggage claim
After landing at Zayed International Airport, passengers proceed through the jet bridge or transfer bus to the arrivals area. Baggage claim carousels are clearly signposted inside the terminal. Trolleys and porters are available at the baggage claim area, and trolley use is complimentary.
Immigration and customs
International arrivals pass through UAE immigration and customs before entering the arrivals hall. UAE nationals and residents with eligible travel documents can use e-gates for faster processing. If you need assistance at any stage, the airport’s Salam Meet & Assist service can be booked in advance to guide you from the aircraft through to the exit.
Meeting points and pick-up
Once through customs, arriving passengers exit into the main Arrivals Hall. The taxi pick-up area is clearly signposted at the lower curbside outside the Arrivals Hall. If you are being picked up by private vehicle, designated pick-up zones are located in the same area as the short-stay car park.
Zayed International Airport Departures
Check-in
All departing passengers check in at Terminal A, regardless of which airline they are flying with. Most airlines open check-in counters two to three hours before departure for international flights. Online check-in is available with most carriers, and self-service kiosks are available inside the terminal.
If you prefer a more hands-on start to your journey, the Salam Meet & Assist service provides fast-track assistance through check-in, immigration, and security. It is available for arrivals, departures, and transits.
Security and boarding
After check-in and bag drop, passengers proceed through security screening before reaching the departure gates. The airport’s Departure Lounge and retail areas are accessible post-security. Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the terminal, but enclosed smoking rooms with strong air filtration are available in each pier.
