Parkonic Paid Parking in Dubai Communities: How It Works and How to Avoid Surprise Charges

Parkonic is a private, ticketless parking operator. Among the locations it manages are several Dubai residential communities, including Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC) and Discovery Gardens, where it runs paid street parking. Cameras read your number plate when you enter and leave, and if you haven’t paid by SMS, the fee comes straight out of your Salik account when you exit.

Residents can avoid visitor charges in Parkonic car parks by registering their residence details, such as a tenancy contract or title deed, and adding and activating their car in the PARKONIC+ app before entering the parking area. Unexpected charges can appear if your Ejari expires, your plate number is entered incorrectly, or you park an extra car beyond your home’s allocated spaces.

In this guide, you’ll learn how Parkonic parking works, what it costs, how to register your car as a resident, and the steps to dispute any incorrect charge.

What is Parkonic and how does it work in residential communities?

Parkonic manages parking for private communities and developments, which makes it different from Parkin, the operator behind Dubai’s public paid parking zones.

In the residential communities it manages, Parkonic parking runs on a smart system that recognises number plates automatically, with no tickets, barriers or parking machines. The system records when your car enters and leaves, then works out how long you stayed and what you owe.

Parkonic parking rates, operating hours and terms of use vary from one location to another, and fees or terms can change with or without prior notice. It’s best to check the signs on site and the PARKONIC+ app before you park.

Parkonic vs Parkin: how community parking differs from public paid parking zones

Dubai now has two kinds of paid parking that residents run into most often. Parkin runs the public paid parking zones, which have recently expanded into areas such as Al Jaddaf, Mirdif and International City. Parkonic runs parking inside private communities. The rules are not the same, and mixing them up is one of the easiest ways to get caught out.

Parkonic rates and payment methods

In JVC and Discovery Gardens, Parkonic uses the same hourly rates. You pay per hour or part of an hour, every day of the week, including weekends and public holidays.

Payment options in these zones are limited, so know them before you park:

Salik auto-deductionYes. Applies automatically if you don’t start an SMS session

If you park in these areas regularly and don’t have a resident allocation, Parkonic also sells memberships through the PARKONIC+ app. These are the current packages listed for JVC and Discovery Gardens:

MembershipPrice
MonthlyAED 672
QuarterlyAED 1,999
Six monthsAED 3,999
AnnualAED 4,999

Note: Parkonic revised these prices in April 2026, so news reports from early 2026 quoting different figures are out of date. Prices and terms are confirmed in the app at checkout.

How Parkonic takes parking fees from Salik

Salik is the default payment method for Parkonic parking in JVC and Discovery Gardens, unless you choose to pay by SMS and your session is confirmed. If you don’t pay by SMS, the parking fee is deducted automatically from the Salik account linked to your car when you leave, with no code to scan and no payment to confirm.

Some residents only notice Parkonic parking charges after they’ve been deducted from their Salik account. Here’s what you need to know to avoid unexpected charges:

  • Charges can show up late: Parkonic parking charges may take some time to appear in your Salik account, so check your account later to confirm the amount deducted.
  • Use one payment method: You can pay by SMS or let the system deduct the fee from your Salik account automatically. If your SMS payment is confirmed, the fee won’t be deducted again from Salik, as each parking session is charged only once.
  • Each exit is a new session: If you leave and come back, that counts as a separate session unless the location’s rules say otherwise.
  • Low balance means SMS: Vehicles without a Salik account, or without enough balance, must pay by SMS, and extra SMS charges may apply.

Salik’s own terms apply to these deductions. For more on how your account works, read our guide to how Salik works in Dubai.

How to register your car with Parkonic as a resident

In JVC District 16, each eligible property is entitled to two resident parking allocations, which apply only within the designated District 16 parking areas. Registration and activation must be completed before you can use them. Until activation is complete, the applicable parking charges apply.

Registration steps:

  1. Open the resident registration portal or the PARKONIC+ app: Then choose the residential community you live in from the list.
  2. Choose the document you’ll register with: You can register with an Ejari, a title deed or a lease contract.
  3. Enter your details as they appear on the document: If you choose an Ejari certificate, you’ll need the name registered on the contract, the contract start and end dates, the Ejari contract number and the DEWA premises number, as well as the building name and unit number.
  4. Upload your document and add your contact details: The portal asks for the Ejari certificate as a PDF of up to 5 MB.
  5. Wait for approval: Parkonic checks your documents first, so approval isn’t instant. You can follow your application with the Check Registration Status option on the portal.
  6. Activate with your PIN: Once approved, Parkonic emails you an authorised PIN. Use it to activate Resident Parking Eligibility in the PARKONIC+ app.
  7. Add your car in My Vehicles: Do this at least five minutes before you drive into the parking area.

Why you might pay Parkonic parking charges even as a resident

Even if you live in the community, you may still be charged for Parkonic parking if your car isn’t registered and activated in the system. Here are the main reasons residents end up paying the applicable parking charges, and how to avoid each one.

1. Your Ejari or lease has expired

Your resident access is tied to an active Ejari, title deed or lease agreement. Parkonic’s terms say that when the contract expires, is cancelled or is suspended, your access is switched off automatically and without prior notice. From then on, you’re charged like any visitor, and Parkonic doesn’t refund charges caused by an expired contract.

If your tenancy renewal is coming up, renew your Ejari early. Parkonic doesn’t publish a separate reactivation process, so once you have the new contract, submit it through the tenant portal or contact the helpdesk before the old one runs out.

2. You have more cars than your allocated spaces

In JVC District 16, you can register more than two vehicles to one property, but the resident parking entitlement can only be used by up to two registered vehicles at the same time. If both resident parking allocations are already in use, any additional registered vehicle parked in the area is subject to the applicable parking charges. In Discovery Gardens, you can buy an additional slot from the Membership section of the app.

3. Your car wasn’t activated in time

Parkonic’s terms require you to add or activate your vehicle in My Vehicles at least five minutes before entering. If you park first and activate later, standard charges apply to that session. This also applies to a new or replacement car.

4. Your plate details are wrong

Because the system works entirely from your number plate, the plate details on your account must be accurate and current. A wrong letter, number or emirate code can lead to charges or refused access. Check your registered plates in the app, especially after changing cars or plates.

5. You parked outside the resident area

Resident allocations in JVC District 16 only apply inside the designated District 16 parking areas. Parking on other paid streets nearby means paying the normal hourly rate.

How to dispute a Parkonic charge or fine

The right contact depends on what you’re disputing.

IssueWho to contact
Incorrect chargeParkonic support
Wrong plate number on a chargeParkonic support
A parking fineThe authority that issued the fine, or your community’s property management

Parkonic says it doesn’t issue fines itself. It only detects parking activity and possible violations, so a fine has to be challenged with whoever issued it. Its terms also state that unpaid parking fees may lead to enforcement action, including fines, blacklisting or legal action by the relevant authority.

For charges, contact Parkonic on:

  • Phone: 800-PARKONIC (72756642)
  • Email: helpdesk@parkonic.com

To speed things up, include your plate number, the date, time and location of the session, the Salik deduction details, and a copy of the Ejari or lease that was valid on that date. If you were registered at the time, a screenshot of your active resident status in the app also helps.
