Combining this convenience with the community’s excellent public transport connections through the Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram, you can easily go car-free in JLT. And since residents here don’t need to drive everywhere, it has led to the added bonus of lower traffic, and thus a more calm ambience.

I don’t have a car, and since living in JLT, I don’t feel like I need one.” Mark shares, “I can take the metro to my work in Al Sufouh, and it’s just 20 minutes away. Then on the weekends, I can easily take the tram to go out in JBR or Marina.”

Bonus Tip: JLT is a great choice for anyone who needs to travel to Abu Dhabi and Sharjah regularly. That’s because it is located about halfway between these two emirates.

Should I live in JLT or Dubai Marina?

JLT versus Dubai Marina; where should you live? Both boast a luxe, modern vibe, but there are some key differences to consider. Let’s break it down.

Both JLT and Marina are super central, with great public transport options, so getting around Dubai is a breeze in both communities.

Meanwhile, in terms of views, no matter where you choose, gorgeous views are pretty much guaranteed! Dubai Marina does have a slight edge on that front, with the whole dazzling skyscraper-by-the-sea thing. But JLT holds its own with stunning lake views from most apartments – posh, right?

The biggest benefit of living in JLT? It is much easier on the wallet. Not only will you find your rent a bit cheaper, but you’ll also dodge a lot of traffic that Dubai Marina is notorious for.

You should bear in mind that JLT towers have district cooling. What this means is that, unlike the chiller-free units in Dubai Marina, your AC fee will vary during the year. You should expect higher chiller fees during the summer months.

This is something to bear in mind, as you may want to leave a bit of wiggle room in your budget for spending a couple extra hundred dirhams during warmer months on your AC bill.

Now, Dubai Marina is the place to be if you’re a young social butterfly – all the clubs, bars, and activities are right there. But JLT is just a tram stop away from all that excitement, so you can still paint the town red on the weekends without the everyday hustle and bustle.

JLT resident Lisa, who’s called this community home for over three years, loves the vibe. “It’s quieter than the Marina,” she says, “but still close enough to JBR and the Marina for nights out. Plus, there are tons of adorable cafes and restaurants, and they always have fun events going on in the neighbourhood, so I’m never bored.”

Overall, JLT offers most of the benefits of Dubai Marina, with a more family-friendly vibe and a stronger sense of community, minus the hefty price tag and crazy traffic.
