About Al Jazirah Al Hamra

Historical Pearling Village Various Attractions Unique Atmosphere

Al Jazirah Al Hamra is a coastal district in the southern part of Ras Al Khaimah, known for its unique blend of heritage and modern living. Originally a tidal island, Ras Al Khaimah grew into a small coastal settlement with around 200 residents by 1830, most of whom worked in pearl fishing.

Known today as the “Ghost Town,” the area features a historic mosque, abandoned villas, and traditional structures that reflect its rich past. The Zaab clan ruled the town until 1968–1971, when they relocated to Abu Dhabi, leaving behind the now-deserted settlement.

Today, Al Jazirah Al Hamra stands as the last traditional pearling coastal town in the Gulf, preserved as a heritage and archaeological site that showcases the authentic fabric of a historic Gulf community. This historic core is surrounded by newer residential and leisure developments, offering a contrast between the past and present. Its proximity to the Arabian Gulf means residents enjoy scenic views, fresh sea breezes, and easy access to beaches.
