Construction of Sheikh Zayed Road began in 1971 and was completed in 1980. It’s named after the founder and former president of the UAE Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The highway starts in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi on the Saudi-UAE Border and ends at the Oman-UAE border in Al-Jeer, Ras al-Khaimah.
